I never was interested in Star Wars or Star Trek, or most other sci-fi or adventure blockbusters out there that has a major fanbase. People assume that I’m into those sci-fi series since I may sometimes come off a little geeky (do I?), but I’m not really interested in them at all. I don’t mind the assumptions, but I never really grew up watching them, so I never grew interested.
What I am really into are some Soviet-era movies, particularly by Andrei Tarkovsky. For sci-fi movies I love, two of Tarkovsky’s movies come to mind: Solyaris and Stalker, both movies based from novels. And even though there was a US adaptation of the movie Solyaris called “Solaris” (starring George Clooney), I wouldn’t recommend watching that version. I watched that Hollywood adaptation first, then the original 1970s film, and I still preferred the original 1970s version.

They’re both very slow-paced movies, and most people might not have the patience to watch the first 15-30 minutes of the movie, so it might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Still, I thought I’m the type of person who wouldn’t have the patience to watch slow-paced movies, and yet I watched both movies and loved them.
Anyone willing to buy me the blu-ray versions of these movies? :P
